Smithville Library is over 100 years old

The first library service in what is now called West Lincoln began as an Associate Library in Smithville around the year 1901. It had it's beginning operating out of the back of a shoe store. The first order of books amounted to $199.55. Fiction books amounted to less than 20 percent of that first purchase. The library has moved many times since. In 1970 with the inception of Regional Government, a Public Library Board was formed for the Township of West Lincoln. Smithville Public Library is the largest and the most centrally located of three libraries in West Lincoln Township.

Today Smithville Public Library is located in Smithville's town hall complex. The library has hardcover and paperback books, magazines and pamphlets, Dutch language books, literacy material, children's VHS videocassettes, children's musical cassettes, children's books and cassettes. In addition to that there are computers available for public access to the Internet and a number of software titles for public use (Please take a moment and read the Video and Internet Policies). We have a photocopy machine and printer which is networked to the computers. There is a charge of 15 cents for each printout or copy made.

If you wish to access materials that are not available at the Smithville Public Library but may be found at other libraries, please click and fill out an Inter-Library Loan Form. If you wish to reserve materials that are available at the Smithville Public Library, please click and fill out a Reserve Form.

The Smithville Public Library is centrally located in Smithville's town hall complex which was officially opened in 1994.
Numerous children's programs take place at the library including a children's story time and a summer reading program.
